Senior Applications Engineer - Chemical Engineering

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a Senior Applications Engineer within a leading technology company in Edinburgh that specialises in the food and drink, pharmaceutical and specialty chemicals industries.

The Senior Applications Engineer (SAE) will report to the CEO whilst working alongside the CTO to understand customer production process requirements and the appropriate application of the company’s chemical technology.

The SAE will specify potential solutions and liaise with manufacturing partners to deliver appropriate process and equipment design, based on an understanding of customers’ chemistry and process needs. This will be a customer facing role with an element of technical sales and after-sales support with the key intention of driving growth in the business.

This exciting senior position will involve local and international opportunities to promote the company’s unique technology at conferences and other industry events.

Specific Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:

  • Define scale-up requirements through pilot and full-scale production levels
  • Develop and maintain relationships with R&D, engineering and production teams within the targeted customer base.
  • Guide, advise and train engineers, sales agents and business development staff on technical and industry requirements.
  • The SAE will work with the CEO and Engineering Director to target and exploit opportunities for the implementation of the company’s technology and to develop and implement stepwise plans for target client development.


 Desired Skills and Experience  

The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree, post-graduate or PhD level in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
  • 5+ years’ experience in a chemical engineering or chemicals/pharma manufacturing environment, ideally with fine or specialty chemicals or pharma
  • Experience of interpreting customer requirements and converting to process definitions
  • Knowledge of continuous processing principles
  • Experience of influencing customer in senior level management
  • Willingness to travel internationally to customer sites when required

Your salary expectations should be in the region of £50,000 - £60,000.
