Lead Process Engineer

An exciting opportunity for a Lead Process Engineer to join a global leader in the design and manufacture of electronic instruments within medical devices, telecommunications, optical communications, defence and scientific sectors.

Currently, the company is a combination of low volume development orders combined with an increasing number of new products entering into running manufacture following qualification in customer’s products.

This Scottish business is growing rapidly and is seeking a Lead Process Engineer to join their engineering team and report directly to the Head of Solutions. The role will have responsibility for development and qualification of manufacturing processes and full technical ownership over manufacturing processes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • New process development:
  • Identify process requirements and identify candidate process/equipment to fulfil them.
  • Establish process definition and performance metric.
  • Define process qualification requirements and oversee process qualification.
  • Define process monitoring and maintenance requirements.
  • Implement process diagnostics and analyse performance statistics.
  • Identify opportunities, present business case and deliver process improvement projects.
  • Ensuring the new processes comply with internal and external regulations.
  • Support to production team:
  • Provide key operating parameters for generation of work instructions.
  • Technical approval to changes in manufacturing processes.
  • Continual evaluation of processes performance (statistical analysis and corrective actions recommendations).

Required qualifications and experience

Essential requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering or a related field, with some industrial experience.
  • Experience working in manufacturing environment.
  • Experience of leading and completing new process implementation in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with CAD software packages.
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Ability to lead and persuade others to change work practices.

Desirable qualifications and/or work experience:

  • Experience working with process engineering software and systems.
  • Six sigma certification.
  • Knowledge of techniques and tools of process improvement.
  • Skilled in process simulations, standard operating procedure assessments and system integration into business environments.
  • Familiarity with government regulation and safety measures (IOSH or equivalent safety qualification desirable).
