Operations Manager

FlexMedical Solutions provide contract design, development and manufacturing services to medical device OEM's from our site in Livingston.

The business is going through a phase of exciting expansion and have an excellent opportunity for an Operations Manager to join the team and play an active role in the company's development. 

The Operations Manager will provide expertise and leadership to a growing, technically complex organisation. The role will be responsible for manufacturing, supply chain, maintenance and calibration functions and will be involved in both R&D and routine manufacturing operations. The focus of this role is to ensure that all manufacturing requirements are achieved in an efficient and timely manner.

Working across all customer projects with activities extending from early concept to full scheduled development and manufacture (under ISO13485 jurisdiction) you will have a sound understanding of procurement, materials and logistics functions as well as maintenance and calibration activities.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Build and lead a high performing operations team, understand business goals and cascade effectively to team
  • Meet agreed production targets and undertake root cause investigation of production issues whilst ensuring continuous improvements are implemented
  • Assume responsibility for capacity planning (material, people, equipment) and ensure accurate availability and deployment of resources
  • Influence design for manufacture (DFM) decisions
  • Support effective implementation of new ERP system and ensure it is properly utilised for all supply chain and manufacturing related functions
  • Ensure all procurement, materials and logistics activities are executed compliantly and meet expected cost targets 


Essential Technical Skills:


  • Have a thorough understanding of biosensor design, development and manufacture
  • Be competent in leading and managing people and projects
  • Have a detailed, working understanding of ISO13485 and 21 CFR Part 820 regulations
  • Fully understand Design for Manufacture (DFM) methodology
  • Understand ERP systems and all related material and production control elements, ideally with experience of Microsoft Dynamics or similar
  • Competently read, understand and interrogate technical drawings / specifications and translate into manufacturing instructions
  • Have a sound financial capability and understand the impact of efficiencies on the P&L
  • Be able to drive performance in both early stage development as well as routine manufacturing programs 

Knowledge & Experience


  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in technical / engineering discipline and have at least 8 years in industry, 3 of which must be in diagnostics. However, consideration will be given where significant industry experience and accomplishment can be demonstrated in lieu of academic qualifications.
  • Proven track record of people management.
  • Experienced in process excellence tools (preferably trained to green or black belt standard) with demonstratable delivery.
